Welcome to CatNote (the “App”). We value your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how information is handled in connection with the App. Please read it before using the App.
This Policy applies to the App and its iOS home-screen widgets. CatNote is a daily-record and annual-calendar app offering local notes with text and images, an annual view, and widgets.
When you create or edit a note, its title, body, date, images you choose to add, and related local display information are stored locally on your device so that the App can display, edit, and manage your diary records and annual view.
We do not upload those notes to servers under our control, and the developer does not receive or manually view that content, sell or rent it, or use it for advertising, profiling, or marketing. Please do not place highly sensitive information, such as passwords, payment-card numbers, or identity-document numbers, in your notes.
The App stores necessary feature status locally on your device, such as the permanent-unlock status, interface preferences, and the minimum local data required to display widgets. We do not upload or sell that status.
If you purchase the “CatNote Permanent Edition,” payment, orders, refunds, and purchase credentials are handled by Apple App Store under Apple’s rules. We do not receive your full payment-card information or Apple Account password. The App may verify purchase status on-device through Apple StoreKit to confirm permanent-edition access.
The current version does not offer account registration, cloud sync, advertising, third-party behavioural analytics, or social sharing. We do not actively collect location, contacts, microphone, camera, health information, or cross-app tracking identifiers. The image feature handles only images you choose, as described in Section 2.5. If a future version introduces a feature that changes these practices, we will update this Policy before enabling it and obtain consent where required by applicable law.
When you add images on the note editing page, the App uses the iOS system Photos picker and receives only the images you choose. It does not scan or read your entire photo library or request access to the entire library for this feature. You may cancel selection; choosing not to add images does not affect text-note functionality.
The App processes selected images on your device to insert them into notes, display text and images together, and provide image previews. It saves processed copies, thumbnails, and their associations with notes in the App’s local data directory. Copies may be resized, compressed, and re-encoded and may therefore differ from the original files.
The App does not persist photo-library asset identifiers for selected images or explicitly copy GPS location, capture time, or camera-model metadata from the original files into saved copies. Re-encoded images may still contain basic format information, such as colour space and pixel dimensions. This does not mean that the visible image itself cannot contain personal information you photographed or recorded.
The App does not automatically upload these images to developer-controlled servers or provide them to advertising or third-party analytics services. If a selected image must be downloaded from iCloud Photos, Apple handles that download according to your account and system settings; this does not mean that the developer receives the image.
The App saves notes, processed image copies, thumbnails, and related local data on your device for continued editing and viewing. The current version does not provide developer-operated cloud sync or cloud backup.
You can remove images on the note editing page or delete the corresponding content through the App’s note-management functionality. To support undo and avoid deleting images still referenced by notes, removed local image copies may be retained until editing ends and are cleaned up after the App confirms they are no longer referenced by notes. Removal is not an assurance of immediate, irreversible secure erasure. Removing an image from a note does not delete or modify the original in the system Photos library.
Deleting the App and its local data generally removes the corresponding device-local content; offloading that retains documents and data is not the same as deleting that data. Depending on your system settings, iOS, iCloud Backup, computer backups, or device migration may include App data, including notes and images. Apple or your chosen system tools handle those backups. The developer cannot access or delete their contents for you, and deletion within the App does not mean copies in existing backups have been deleted. Manage those copies through the relevant system settings or backup tools.
Recovery after deletion, device loss, or changing devices depends on available backups and system restore behaviour; the App does not guarantee recovery. Please decide whether and how to back up important content.
For questions about this Policy or to exercise rights available under applicable law, contact the email shown above. Because the developer does not hold your note or image content, deletion generally needs to be performed on your device or through your backup tools.
Except where required by law, necessary to respond to an emergency involving life, health, or property, or separately authorised by you, we do not provide, sell, rent, or publicly disclose your note content, including images you add, to third parties.
Apple processes purchase-related information as an independent service provider under its own rules. Please also review Apple’s privacy policy and App Store information.
We take reasonable measures to minimise unnecessary data processing. The App is designed to keep diary content locally on your device; however, no device or network environment can be guaranteed to be completely secure. Please protect your device passcode, Apple Account, and system updates.
The App is not intended to actively collect personal information from children under 14. If you are a minor, please review this Policy and use the App with a guardian’s guidance.
We may update this Policy when features or legal requirements change. Material changes will be communicated through the App, this GitHub Pages site, or another reasonable method. This version 1.6 update adds explanations of image selection, local image processing and storage, deletion, and system backups. The updated Policy applies from its stated effective date.
